How to
Manually Update your
Licensed Avast Professional Antivirus -
Version 4.8 to the latest feature packed Version 5 for FREE
NOTE: These instructions apply to
users of
licensed versions of "Avast Professional
Desktop" Antivirus ONLY.
If you are using a different Antivirus, this page is NOT for you.
Also, to upgrade the
"-FREE Non-Commercial HOME-" version of Avast, please
go to
http://www.avast.com to
see how to update to the latest FREE Non-Commercial version.
OK, HERE WE GO...
Step 1.
Download the Update file using the link below named "Avast
v5.0 Upgrade File" by (R)ight
clicking
on the link with your RIGHT mouse button and selecting "Save As"
or "Save Target As"
depending on the version of your browser..
Download and save
the file ( setup_av_pro.exe ) to a temporary directory on your hard drive or to
your computer's desktop.
It doesn't really matter where you save to, _so long as you remember_
where you
saved the file ..
Step 2. Once you have downloaded the file, you need to RUN it.
Either locate it in Windows Explorer from the directory you saved the
file in Step 1 or use the
"Start > Run > Browse" method to locate and
run the file. Once you have run the file, the
extraction process
begins and will look like so..
When the extraction process completes, you will get a screen like so..
Step 3. Click on the Next > button to continue..
Step 4. On the following screen, there will be a tick in the "Participate in the avast! community" box by default. Unless you wish to participate in allowing your computer to automatically forward certain security-related information to Avast developers, REMOVE THIS TICK (see below) before proceeding.
..Now Click on the Next > button to continue..
Step 5. Leave the next screen as it is and simply click Next > button to continue with the upgrade..
Step
6. The upgrade installation begins. Once the install
process has completed, you will get the following "avast! Pro
Antivirus Setup - Setup finished" screen..
Now simply click the Finish button to allow the computer to restart / re-boot, in order to complete the installation.
Ensure you have saved anything you have been working on that has not yet been saved before clicking the Finish button as once you do, the computer will immediately begin shutting down and restarting..
That's it - you're done! Once your computer boots up again, you should be running the latest version of Avast! Professional and can now enjoy the excellent new features and protection it provides.
NB: You can now also DELETE the " setup_av_pro.exe " file you downloaded in Step 1. If all went well, then it's served it's purpose and is no longer needed.
